to make 5530 contacts to work we need to edit this file RM-356_31.0.101_prd.core.C00

so it cancels this tf.00000

but editing RM-356_31.0.101_prd.core.C00 even by just one letter change, corrupts the file, this file not like the rofs2 and rofs3 files which we can edit with hex editor

so am a bit stuck until find away to edit this file or to find away to patch over it at least so symbian doesnt recongize it

bro......this is really crap that even if u want to add ANY single character in a binary data file it would corrupt that file....u can only change the text inside that file (i.e. STRINGS) ....once I have tried 2 figure out how can I change the length of a text inside a .RSC file...but even if u add/minus any single character in even TEXT data it will be corrupted.......
as far as I figure out that any binary data or executable file that shows data in HEX editor is not the actual structural representation of data...it has some block information of data that recognize each section of data .....so if u add/minus any character in that file not just replacing the text in same length it wil change the data section BLOCK size....so can't be recognized or usable anymore....
it is only possible if u know the original data structure that is used to store the data in that file...........
Sad as far as I learned Sad

Yes, I tried to work on some game private servers before, and I guess Nokia encrypted the file and you need to decrypt it to show the original code. About HEX editing, if the text is not in the same length replace them with spaces.

Can you guys also check out Nokia 5230 and 5235? They look quite similar to Nokia 5800 but it sports a 5530 homescreen.

im sorry but it has nothing to do with the hardware/looks... its all the firmware
and im pretty sure the 5230 and the 5530 are more alike then the 5530 and 5800 or 5800 or 5230

I have a new idea. Since this thread is all about customizing homescreen, why don't we try and add in WLAN scanning on the homescreen? I find it time consuming when you still need to click on the battery bar, click on the connection icon and then open the wlan scanning thingy.  Grin

You cannot change a single letter inside of a packaged ROM image. If that is what you are trying to do it is bound to fail. But ROFS images override files inside the ROM, thus placing the modified file inside the ROFS1 or 2 will effectively override the one in the ROM. This is called the composite file system, the Z drive is like a layered file system where the top layers can hide lower layers. The rom being the lowest and the ROFS4 being the country specific resources (hench highest).

Editing the RSC or RXX file is quite simple, but I guess that you know how to do that (prefix length before string).
