UPDATE - There were issues with the nokia servers stopping certain isp's resolving to the nsu properly causing the "no updates avaliable" message when trying to update your handset, even tho the firmware for your product code had been released and other owners we able to download it.

IT APPEARS THE UPDATE FOR CERTAIN CODES HAS BEEN PULLED FROM THE SERVERS UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE - checked with navifirm, see pages 15 and 16 for the latest product code updates and availability

IT IS RECOMMENDED TO PERFORM A FULL BACKUP USING OVI SUITE BEFORE THE UPDATE THEN PERFORM A HARD RESET ON YOUR PHONE AFTER THE UPDATE BY DIALING *#7370# from the homescreen and entering the default Lock Code 12345 (unless you have modified your lock code) - THEN RESTORE YOUR CONTACTS ETC

HELOOX2/C2Z/ROM PATCHER HACK WORKS AFTER HARD RESET? - PENDING AND IN TESTING
(it appears that Heloox2 is unable to unpack the ROMPATCHER and therefore you will be unable to complete the Helloox2 installation after a hard reset. This will mean you will not be able to install the c2z theme effects after a hard reset, in theroy, flashing back to v12, installing helloox2/rompatcher/c2z then updating v2.0 should be the workaround as the v2.0 update doesnt remove these apps if already installed during the update process. This has yet to be tested. We believe the fix is only at firmware level)

Nokia N97 software update 2.0 
Nokia N97 software update 2.0 (version number 20.0.019, 20.1.021 and 20.2.019 depending on your region) is now available through the Nokia Software Updater. The software update will make your N97 perform even better, through numerous fixes, improvements, new features and new functions.

Software availability
As usual, we have published standard non-customised versions of the software, with country (SIM-free) and operator versions following over the next few days and weeks. The Nokia N97 (and several other devices) can check automatically for new software. Go to Menu > Applications > SW Update and enable automatic checking. Using your PC to update
Initially, this software update is only available through the Nokia Software Updater. Due to wealth of new content available in this release, the over-the-air "FOTA" packages are larger than normal (around 17MB) and to allow for sufficient testing, delivery will be slightly delayed.

What's new
The software contains many fixes and improvements including:

    * Improved touch screen scrolling
    * Ovi Maps 3.1 with 3?D maps - (This appears to be unchanged from my v12)
    * Nokia e-mail, Ovi Contacts, Ovi Store
    * Improved memory and battery performance
    * Improved image and video stability
    * VLINGO was added - edit by me

* Keylock can not be disabled with the hard slider located on the side of the phone sometimes when you plug your handset in via USB mode to your computer and then open the keyboard slide from closed - Requires a batt pull.

* Some new features like maps, ovi contacts, nokia messaging wouldnt have installed after the update until you run menu>applications>software update (it is also possible that you had them installed already as they wernt exclusive to the firmware update) These are also considered as optional updates which may explain why they do not come as standard in the v2.0 update as advertised - However it still doesnt even show up as updatable for some

* When plugging the phone via USB to your computer and selecting MASS STORAGE MODE the messaging settings (under "Other") are changed from being saved on Memory E:\ to C:\ without the users knowledge - this will also in some cases affect the email widget on the home screen

* There appears to be an issue using kinetic scrolling in ovi store. This however has been noted by nokia and can be fixed by downloading the latest version and then updating it

* Some people are able to see letters on the dailpad. This maybe region specific as not all countries use or require it.  im trying to work it out. Any info appreciated

* Some people get wierd errors and crashes after the update which would make it seem less stable than the previous v12 - like described here: You are not allowed to view links.

* Some people are getting errors on v2.0 from restoring backups made from v12 - unfortunately it can be solved by not restoring - see here You are not allowed to view links.

* It has been reported that the famous NOKIA TUNE is still at large, even after hard reset. - CONFIRMED

* I have had one user report the hang on answer bug remains after a hard reset on v2.0 - CONFIRMED

* In some cases the data packet icon still shows under the reception bar even tho there are no active connections under the connection manager. Also in other cases there is a data connection but no active programs using it. This is being caused by the recently updated version of OVI store. - EDIT 30/10/2009 OVI STORE UPDATED BY NOKIA TO FIX THIS

* In some cases the back light doesn't time out and therefore drains battery - it is yet to be determined what causes it -EDIT - was able to replicate by plugging in headphones and and going to "now playing" in which the backlight never times out

* There appears to be a memory leak in the coding - if you take over 100 images one after the other with no apps open, with images/videos being set to be saved on e:\ and 50% free on c:\ your phone RAM will eventually decrease to below 13mb and will then crash (experienced this on a day out multiple times at madam tusauds and natural history museum)

* The photo browser doesn't display all the images taken (take over 100 images and the photo browser will not display 100) - but they can be recovered by transferring the raw folders to the PC

Kinetic scrolling is excellent. Super smooth in Contacts and works everywhere. It has a nice bounce-style animation in the Settings menu. Maps seems more accurate - maybe the GPS radio software has been improved or the network location feature is improved. But it is definitely v3.01. The phone seems a little snappier overall although there has been no change to the amount of free RAM available (approx 23mb/120mb)

As for Facebook I don't notice anything different at all. I was expecting some new features but nothing yet. Interested to hear some other experiences.
