thx a lot mate, how about themes and wallpapers, any ideas?

and could you also please advise on how to delete unnecessary languages, but not like only from the menu, but all the help files and related stuff. I mean this way we could save space, and add more...

is it the r.01, r02, r.03 files? but what language refers to what number, and how safe is it do delete these files anywhere we find them? Smiley

thx a lot!

In my cooked fw, I will remove Sound Waves and add Nseries 2 and 5530 and 5230 ones (stripes red only).

when you boot up phone - check with jbak taskman you always got messaging, clock, logs etc open

editing starter_background_apps.rsc stops these from starting, giving quicker boot up and more ram on boot

I asked one thing to myself: can we, without logs and messages startup, get our lost calls and recieved messages? If yes, this is pretty cool!

Asuming you have deleted languages or other stuff (so the rofs2 doesn't get too big), you can also put themes in rofs2 folder /resource/skins (create folders if they don't exist). The corresponding folder containing the .skn file should go in /private/10207114/import.

Please correct me if I've made any mistakes.

Splash screens:
Startup: Find SplashScreen.mif in /resource/apps/ and
replace it with another image with the same name.

Shutdown: Find SysAp.mif in /resource/apps/ and
replace it with another image with the same name.

I have yet to find out how to convert Jpeg images into .mif.

Fonts:
Fonts are found in /resource/Fonts/
s60snr.ttf
s60ssb.ttf
s60tsb.ttf
s60zdigi.ttf

Study these fonts and replace them with true type fonts of your
own liking. Rename them excactly as the originals and overwrite
the originals (make a backup of them on your hard drive first).

Unnecessary startup apps disabled:
The phone starts all kinds of different apps at bootup. They keep
running in the background, eating memory.

Find the cooked file "starter_background_apps.rsc" on this forum
and place it in /resource/ on your rofs2.

Other unnecessary apps disabled:
Find cooked versions of the exe files below and place them in
/sys/bin/ of your rofs2. The cooked files disable the original
ones.

mynokia.exe
Welcome2.exe This app sends SMS to Nokia at first boot.

Cache:
This mod will change s60v5 browser cache from C:\system\cache
to E:\system\cache.

Find file 101F8557.txt in /private/10202be9/ and open it in Notepad.
Edit lines 0x3 and 0x4, replacing "C:" with "E:". Save the file.
Create folders /system/cache on your memory card.

Theme effects:
Find a suitable effects package and replace all files in
/resource/effects/ with the new ones.

Study your effects folder first in order to see what kind of files
belong there (there are a lot of .kml files and some others as well).

Ovi Store on Z:
Ovi Store mod is a dud. I have removed it.

Don MC

Thx a lot mate, rep added.

That's what I was talking about, if it would be possible to collect all verified mods into one sticky topic that would be read only, that would be perfect. Everyone could cook their own FW using these mods.

For users who do not want to experiment, there should another topic with cooked FW and list of changes.

Yes, I am aware of that... But for example someone mentioned having done some network optimizations, moving youtube client to Z, adding themes, modifying the running app circle, making the music player/gallery only read certain folders - MODS which are scattered in other topics and which get lost/forgotten as people post various questions and pages move on, if you know what I mean.

you can extract it, but it's impossible to repack it, so far... So it's no actual use, well, only to see the path of some files so that you can place them in the right ROFS2 folder, thus overwriting them during flash. I guess it has to do with the fact that it has 256-bit AES encryption that Nokia implemented in it.

Well, people should just post better instructions and not only a short description. A rule of the thumb could be: If you're posting a cooked FW, then tell us exactly what you've cooked in it.

Don MC,

My point exactly!

appleorangefruit,

The language files are *.rXX, where for example *.r01 is for English and so on, you need to open the other numbers (xx) if you want to find out what language exactly are they.

I wouldn't suggest though deleting them, as: 1) they do not take much space all in all, 2) besides them there also are some language settings file(s). One I know is perhaps language(s).txt or smth like that, you need to open it and delete the number you don't want, for example leaving 01,d (English, default). There may be other settings files as well, I'm not that deep into that.
