i had the same problem, this is the solution:
"MTP Device Cannot Start code 10" error message I get an "MTP Device Cannot Start, error code 10" error message when I connect my Sansa player 5800 to a PC running Windows 7. What can I do?
1. Make sure you are logged in as an administrator 2. If connected, disconnect your 5800 from the PC 3. Open your command prompt, click Start select Run 4. Type cmd then press Enter 5. Type the following after the prompt: Net localgroup Administrators local service /add then press Enter
NOTE: A "The command completed successfully" message should appear.
6. Close the command prompt and reconnect the 5800 XpressMusic.

I know, I had the same problem (it won't install the driver) and surprisingly solved by using the usb port on the back lol

you need to use an ADMINISTRATOR priveleges account in windows to execute that command. if you're on a guest account or an account with insufficient privileges it'll say that...
i had the same problem yesterday, and that fixed it...

Mine wont, it keeps looping as well, over and over again I saw this problem 3 times (i'm admin of my computer), first I just formatted the memory card to solve. the 2nd time, i reconnect the phone without mem, then insert mem, problem solve. But the 3rd time I have to format the memory card(again) to solve this. After upgrading to v.40, havnt seen this problem.

OK I wanna share my way to solve the same MTP problem which happens to me: 1. Go to mass storage connection and delete that folder like what @jacey boy posted 2. Safely remove then plug 5800 again and choose PC Suite, open Ovi Suite and backup 3. Hard reset and after that I change my USB connection to mass storage (just to make sure when I plug the phone it goes straight to mass storage not PC suite) 4. Plug 5800 then error checking (check that 2 option) plus format the crappy memory card 5. Unplug and plug again, this time choose PC Suite and voila!! the 5800 connects to my laptop and then I restore my backup. 6. I do hard reset again after this although I can use Nokia Music and Ovi Suite again because when I do step 5 I can't see pop-up notification for installing driver. After this hard reset I can see the pop-up again when I plug my 5800.

The only way this worked for me was to format the memory card, then copy my stuff back onto it again

The only way this worked for me was to format the memory card, then copy my stuff back onto it again I had the same problem before, after i read in nokia forums i did the below & it is working. Open file manager in 5800 & select memorycard then options & eject Now remove the memory card Now connect the 5800 to PC the pc will find the MTP driver & install it automatically, Now open Ovi suite "it may give a msg that moemory card not found & so some applications may not work" Just say ok. Exit Ovi suite disconnect 5800 Now insert memory card Now the MTP problem will not be there. Hope this works for you
