hi everyonel,

one of the things that pisses me off with my 5800 is that it can't be connected via usb mass storage, or else everything gets screwed up (the famous iconless home screen). thanks to a fellow member, this is fixable, but it's always a pain in the ass.

as it is always a pain in the ass a simple reboot of the device... but that's another issue.

so, back to my question: I still don't have access to firmware v31, would it solve this mass storage connection problem? if so, I'd consider changing product code to get it faster...

thanks and regards to all

Never had this problem on any of the FW's, but if you use home screen alot and mass storage then i'd give v.31 a try to see if the problem gets sorted.

1 tip on using the Mass Storage mode:

HAVE PATIENCE

When u connect, phone unloads the theme, wallpaper etc .. WAIT FOR THAT TO HAPPEN .. and use slowly.. dont go around double clicking everywhere..  Grin

Apologies, i didn't explain very well.

I was talking about what leo78750 said 'When u connect, phone unloads the theme, wallpaper etc .. WAIT FOR THAT TO HAPPEN'

Not the bug, which i don't have.

I also never encountered that bug and I use mass storage most of the time (OS: Vista). Just "safely remove" and unplug the phone. Sometimes Vista "autostarts" the Media Player for some reason when I connect my phone which then runs in the background (no tab or anything visible) and has to to killed by the task manager before I can "safely remove" the phone.

When connected, do a right-click on the drive - properties - Autoplay - Actions - Take no action. You can select what happens if your phone is connected.

By the way, I also connect 90% of the time in USB storage mode without any issue (FW V31).

Me Neither, I connect in mass storage mode quite a lot and have never had any 'bugs' in any FW.

My themes (and some of the shortcuts) disappear when I connect because they're on the storage card but when I disconnect again they come back.

The only annoying thing I have is that my messages are stored on the memory card, when I come out of mass storage mode (if I forget to reset the storage location) I get the 'storage location cannot be accessed' message (is that the bug?).

Cheers

That's set for all my drives and I don't know why the Media Player sometime starts. Well the process starts not the Media Player GUI. It doesn't happen often. No big deal, when I can't remove the drive savely I know now to kill the wmp process.

Check also the content type in Autoplay. The process can start if windows detects that the files on the new drive are Music files: try to set it to Mixed Content.

I found that removing the hardware from the pc then reconnecting sorts issues out

no, the bug is that when I'm browsing on pc via mass storage, the phone crashes and when I reboot it (only taking battery out, and without the card, which must be re-inserted after the reboot process) I get the home screen problem where the 4 icons are gone, contacts and dialer icons are useless and so are the red and green buttons. then I have to search for file 10275102.cre and delete it.

this happens at 90% of the times I use mass storage mode. with pc suite it goes ok, but sloooooowwww....!!

thanks for all your replies
