they did mention in the symbian blog that 5800, n97 and i8910 are all symbian os supported, that means there's a really good chance we'll get the symbian^2 os as an update for our phone. This is ofcourse very far away. probably january 2010 we'll see something materialize out of this.
lets hope we have our firmware update before that!

nokia kinda sucks. by that time i would probably be thinking of changing phone already.
As mentioned, the chipset is different. probably 5800 would never support kinetic scrolling. Even if it does, it might be laggy.

Nice review man... (+1)
I have to say i am not happy that this is faster than the 5800 and has some improvements over it... If Nokia is going to make a cheaper phone for the Nokia market i think users shouldnt get more than what the 5800 has in any way...
Nokia should bring the update to 5800's firmware first.. Then market the 5530...

lol guys chill out, kinetic scrolling is defo possible on 5800. gravity can do it, so everything else should be able to do it aswell.
and frankly, the amount of free ram on v21, around 40mb, is ridiculous. nokia should prolly concentrate on increasing this for v30. leave kinetic scrolling and everything else for another update! give us a completely stable and fast firmware first!!

Exactly... The message this essentially says is that buyers of a first and more expensive device get put on the backburner for a cheaper replacement launch. The 5530 isn't some new offering to expand the Nokia lineup either, it's basically a direct 5800 clone/competitive offering... I've owned all of 1 Nokia and in this short period of time I've seen them execute some HORRIBLE marketing decisions that really have me shaking my head. Given Nokia's position right now they can't afford to piss of any existing customer base like this.

Anyways, this news pretty much confirms that Nokia hasn't learned much and isn't going to improve the situation anytime soon. This will probably be my first and last Nokia because I do not like where the company is headed nor do i understand their marketing decisions.

Nokia marketing is this, in 2/4 quarter they lost 1,47 billions to 427 millions (71% profit) euros from last year in same quarter! They want to earn on customers providing low hardware and big prices to stay in bussiness

Yep, I'm a Nokia fan for a long time, but what they are doing right now with 5800 users is really disappointing. As I'm a symbian platform fan I'm thinking about replacing my 5800 with Sony Ericsson running symbian (as I do not trust Samsung). Maybe just not now but in a near future I'll definitely think about some other symbian based phone. I just regret that I did not do a proper research on the Internet before buying my 5800 and now I have to stick with it. Blah!

wew don't complain here, there are a lot more satisfied 5800 users here rather than you unsatisfied ones, you won't find much of your kind here, i tell ya there is no "perfect" phone nor phone maker bear in mind, even if you buy a phone from iPhone, Rim, SE, Samsung, HTC or wherever, you will still be unsatisfied if you want the "perfect phone"

Agree with you...But I've gotten a phone that's as close to perfect as it's possible, as far as I am concerned......the Nokia 5800XM

I know that there is no "perfect" phone. But come on! Nokia can do better than that. Compare Sony Ericsson Satio's homescreen and 5800' one and you'll know what I mean

I think it's about the little things. The 5800 in itself is a great phone - no discussion about that, but Nokia should always keep in mind not to madden "us" too much - "the customers!" But I'm happy to hear, that Nokia is aware of us and will not forget the 5800-user.
To mention the 5530: It's foolish and unwise to release a new, but cheaper phone (5530) with better features, when there are still thousands of unsatisfied 5800 user...
regards, reclam

Most of you see it completely the wrong way. When was the last time that Nokia offered MAJOR upgrades through firmware ? They didn't even give n95 kastor or fp2 and we are talking about the most successful nokia device in recent times (not to mention an expensive model). Now, for the first time, they are considering giving an older model the latest OS through updates, not unlike apple. I, like most of you, would like to see these changes yesterday, but unlike Apple, Nokia has 3 different handsets to support, not to mention porting qt to symbian plus a complete rewrite of the symbian GUI on their hands. Besides, how often does the competition offer major upgrades in a year? It took apple 3 long years to offer video recording to their users . The important thing here is that Nokia has gotten the message and is willing to change, not only to compete with Apple but also to embrace the Open Source model that they themselves brought to Symbian. In the OSS community , when there is a new version of the OS , every compatible platform gets it through updates. We might even see Symbian ^2 running in our 5800s.

Hopefully you are right with Symbian^2. All in all, Nokia 5800 is a great phone, even with it's bugs, but I would really like to see some homescreen improvements as it is annoying for me to have only 4 customisable shortcuts when I need at least six.

You won't get more than 4 shortcuts unfortunately , the 5530 homescreen still has only 4 app shortcuts, it can also display up to 20 contacts in a carousel at the same time though, along with touch controls for the music player. A similar carousel with the one for contacts but for apps would be ideal though.

So far according to the Symbian foundation and Nokia the Nokia 5800 and the N97 will get the Symbian^2 OS just after its release.......(note the so far....there is no sure chance of it happening, but there is high possibility) You won't get more than 4 shortcuts unfortunately , the 5530 homescreen still has only 4 app shortcuts, it can also display up to 20 contacts in a carousel at the same time though, along with touch controls for the music player. Yeah, but this will use up more system resources.....currently I'm pretty satisfied with the homescreen on the 5800, but what I would like is for both the shortcuts bar and the contacts bar displayed at the same time along with the music plugin.....Don't exactly like widgets..I actually don't see what's all that great about widgets
