Silly me, but i can't see where is kinetic scrolling implemented in home screen of 5530. I wonder why they didn't implement it in menus.

They are currently testing it out. But bear in mind, as I was testing the Nokia 5530, the kinetic scrolling was only available in: - homescreen 20 contacts - web browser - phone book (contact list) other menu such as the main menu or settings menu does not have kinetic scrolling. you're most welcome mate Ok, i love that they will bring kinetic scrolling. Thats whats everybody waited for. But they should bring it to all menus and programs

Another malaysian poster told a different story about the 5530 features coming to the 5800: QUOTE(cuttlefish @ Jul 18 2009, 10:40 PM)oh, means 5800 rily gona be able to use kinetic scrolling, but just duno when... nice... hmm, the windows live messenger provided in FP... i cant login =S "can not allow login" weird weird...
no, what they meant was they will let those nokia ppl at firmware department know what the users want and no promises though. In conclusion, don't get your hopes up yet. You can check the posts about the subject You are not allowed to view links. Register or Loginhere .

Can you confirm that the enhanced homescreen promised for 5800 will be the same as N97? Because everyone and their granma is blogging your post as a confirmation of 5800 supporting a N97 like homescreen with the new firmware.
Kindly confirm this?
Otherwise you're pretty much gonna bring down the internet with the 5800 users getting upset all across. Better now than later.
Whoa... didn't realise it made such an impact on the internet. Yes I can confirm they are working on it because when I was there, they said "Okay now we open to questions on the floor".. I was the first one to ask being an all Nokia 5800 user than I am. And the Nokia representative's reaction was... "lol... I kinda expected that question to pop up and it would have been a surprise if it didnt.. yes we are aware that Nokia 5800 users do want the enchanced homescreen.. etc since leaked videos of the 5530 have been spreading all over the internets.... etc" But then again I confidently say this. I am saying that they are aware we want it. I am also saying they are working on it. But I do not guarantee it will materialize because he hinted that they stumbled upon bugs and performance decrease with the kinetic scrolling n enchanced homescreen on the Nokia 5800. So whether or not it is final, no one can tell. But I am satisfied with what i contributed during the meet up because all this while we are just complaining on the internet and sending pointless feature requests to nokia website without knowing if they are actually hearing us. But now we do know, that they are listening =) Oh and btw if someone could just tell that guy who blogged abt it that the enhanced homescreen is like the 5530 and not the N97 The difference is that low end symbian s60v5 phones most likely won't get widget homescreen like the N97. Nokia will never let their standard range phones be on par with their flagship N series

Thank you so much for sharing the precious info at us, atleast things look good for our 5800, if they would just add a bit of improvement to the homescreen like the 20 contacts and possibly 20 apps too, and if they could be on the same screen, and the gesture of swipping left or right to bring the basic home screen or another custom screen, like the switch for e71

I find it amazing how sources which I consider 'reliable' are taking my word for it and taking it one step ahead by announcing to the whole world what they 'interpret' on what I said... anyway I am glad that you dailymobile guys understand what is actually going on... we can only look forward to see it happen with a brighter hope since we can confirm now that they do know what we want. I really respect how Nokia responds to my question cos they said "since they are both the same OS and very similar in hardware, i dont see why they wouldn't want to integrate these features into it". They are still mobile phone users too. They know how we feel about the issue. Its a bit blunt to say this but imagine if they just sit back and don't do it. Its like saying "yeah we know its very possible but we just refuse to do so and rather you buy a 5530 if you wanted those features".. but anyways once again i thank the readers here for understanding my point and not simply spreading rumours. As for those who did forward smtg based on my 1st post.. err.. well I just hope you guys don't hype up the whole world for ntg. I mean, we all are hoping for the best but as much as I wish I could say "I can confirm it is 100% coming", I can't. =)

The first firmware has been stopped with testing, now the 2nd one will be graded, and then 3 more, and then the one with the highest score will get picked for NSU should take less than 3 weeks, if they don't keep on delaying it as usual

No problem dudes. I'm just glad I realized it immediately after reading the original post of 'J-slade' here at Dailymobile.se J-Slade's post was a far cry from mentioning 5800 having N97 screen. Yet these so called blog-sites ran with it however they wanted, lol. What I'd suggest is put it in BOLD and highlighted text what the new homescreen shall be. Modify your original post I'd suggest!I find it amazing how sources which I consider 'reliable' are taking my word for it and taking it one step ahead by announcing to the whole world what they 'interpret' on what I said... anyway I am glad that you dailymobile guys understand what is actually going on... we can only look forward to see it happen with a brighter hope since we can confirm now that they do know what we want. Look at this press release: You are not allowed to view links. Register or LoginThis is what Nokia is trying to compete with 5530. Nokia was last to enter in touchscreen segment, everyone knows that. To their reputation and customer base, they have to introduce devices in all segments unlike Apple, HTC,Palm, etc and others who play only in higher segment. That's the reason I posted it though. I can switch phones tomorrow and not care about Nokia 1 bit. The reason I posted it is because I think the road they are taking is bad for their survival.
My preference has very little to do with it since I'm likely to switch away from Nokia for good anyways.
Low to mid range is their profitable area? Fine, then why introduce the N97? It's not actually a high end device, it's just priced like one and is getting smashed hardware wise by multiple companies. They could have spent those resources on releasing 2-3 low to mid range phones...

I agree that Nokia is listening us: We customers. I just called their US Tech support on Friday to tell that my 5800 and other s60v5 phones are missing the alphanumeric keypad feature in dialer. The guy said that they are aware of this and Nokia is working to include this feature in future software update. This is also an important feature for me, infact more important than having 20 contacts on the homescreen for me. Those who complain we want more shortcuts on home screen, actually 5800 has possibility of 4(apps)+addressbook(at the bottom)+5 shortcuts in media bar(which also includes browser shortcut)+ a Clock/Alarm shortcut which you can open by just touching the clock on the homescreen+ a Calendar/Profiles shortcut which you can open by touching the date on the home screen == Total of 12 shortcuts, which satisfies Medial lovers and other like me too. I don't think, how you can complain about less shortcuts. Whoa... didn't realise it made such an impact on the internet. Yes I can confirm they are working on it because when I was there, they said "Okay now we open to questions on the floor".. I was the first one to ask being an all Nokia 5800 user than I am. Those who complain we want more shortcuts on home screen, actually 5800 has possibility of 4(customizable apps)+addressbook(at the bottom)+5 shortcuts in media bar(which also includes browser shortcut)+ a Clock/Alarm shortcut which you can open by just touching the clock on the homescreen+ a Calendar/Profiles shortcut which you can open by touching the date on the home screen == Total of 12 shortcuts, which satisfies Medial lovers and other like me too. I don't know, how you can complain about less shortcuts. Hopefully you are right with Symbian^2. All in all, Nokia 5800 is a great phone, even with it's bugs, but I would really like to see some homescreen improvements as it is annoying for me to have only 4 customisable shortcuts when I need at least six.

lol yeah J-Slade, change your post to specify that it wont be the n97 homescreen. gsmarena is a HUGE site visited by millions and ALL those millions are being misinformed as we speak!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! also, thanks again for all those replies. excellently explained everything. I see that there's still a chance we may or may not get the 5530 features. But i'm pretty sure we will!

as for the features themselves, i'd have to say that the contact carousel homescreen would be nice, with the shortcuts in the bottom, and those buttons at the bottom most, for phone book etc. But i still love my current homescreen! LoL!! (theme is the se7en red by nca. if anyone wants that awesome wallpaper, here it is: You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login ) The feature i'm really excited about, though, is kinetic scrolling. Thats what i Reeaally, ABSOLUTELY want on my 58oo! EDIT: whoops double post. merge please :S

I think nokia has made it pretty certain to him that they know what we want and are also on testing phases. Just a matter of time now. but sooner the better for all of us.

Just a matter of time now. but sooner the better for all of us. well, "when" is not a problem for me bro. i've waited with an ngage qd since 2007 to buy a new nokia phone, and finally got the 5800 in 2009! i can wait a bit longer for more features for the same phone! Its not like i'm waiting for a whole new phone right?! No doubt, sooner the better. I'm expecting v30 to probably release this month without these new features, which will be retained n tested for another update in september combined with 5530's release i believe. That's gonna mean waiting for more than a month...
